A Comparison of Langston Hughes' End and Cristina Rossetti's Uphill A Comparison of Langston Hughes' End and Cristina Rossetti's Uphill
The two poems, End and Uphill, by Langston Hughes and Cristina Rossetti respectively, have a common theme: death. However, the overall message of the poems is very different, as two distinct perspectives on death and its meaning unfold.
Thus, Hughes' poem describes death as an absolute final destination, as the title also indicates. The brief but effective title, "End", suggests an ultimate state of nothingness, from which there is no respite. The poem's form is also very significant: the text is formed exclusively of negations instead of assertions. The images constructed in the poem are all negated: there are no clocks on the wall, there is no time, there are no shadow
| 714 | Langston Hughes: One of The Most Important Originators and Exponents of African American Literature Langston Hughes is often referred to as of one of the most important originators and exponents of African American literature. Hughes was born in Joplin, Missouri, on 1st February, 1902. After his father deserted the family Langston was brought up by his grandmother. At an early age he was introduced to the writings of William Du Bois. Du Bois was a well-known political activist in America in the early Twentieth Century and has been called the "father of Pan-Africanism" (W.E.B.Du BIOS is the father of pan-africanism who was his mentor). Hughes imbibed many of his critical views about racism and injustice in society from this figure.
His interest in poetry was inculcated and influenced by the work of Carl Sandburg and Walt Whitman. I
| 645 | Adequate Channel of Distribution The decision regarding the most adequate channel of distribution is indeed a difficult one to make, and finding a solution has to consider the advantages and limitations of both options. As such, the Chief Operating Officer, who has advanced the idea of indirect distribution, has understood the capabilities of the intermediaries. These already possess developed channels (and formed customers) which can easily be used for a most adequ
| 350 | Personality Theory: In Occupational Development and Everyday Life My career will bring me into day-to-day contact with people. It will be necessary to build rapport and to understand different elements of human behavior. Understanding certain patterns of behavior, or theories behind behavior will make me better able to deal with subjects who have occupational issues or who present a behavioral conundrum. I would use a combination the different theories of behavior o meet the needs of my clients, both as a practitioner and as a fellow human being. Each theorist has something I can bring to the table. I do not think it possible to subscribe to any one school of thought, but rather choose as the situation proves necessary. In this paper, I will briefly describe the elements I feel germane from some beh
| 2121 | Virtue and Limitations in
William Blake's "The Chimney Sweeper" Innocence and experience are two opposing forces that have their own virtues and limitations. William Blake demonstrates this notion in his poems, "The Chimney Sweeper." Blake recognizes the fact that innocence and experience are phases of life that we pass through. As a result, one phase is not necessarily better than the other is - they just are. In his collection of innocence poems, "The Chimney Sweeper" emphasizes innocence with positive images of youth, peace, and simplicity. From the experience collection, "The Chimney Sweeper" is spoken from a more mature voice and carries a more somber view. These poems, when read together, represent life itself and the changes we must go through when becoming an adult. Through tone, imagery, a
| 1421 | Product Strategy and Tactical Plan A. Product Strategy and Rationale
For consumers today who are too busy or unwilling to do their own grocery shopping, more and more of the grocery retail trade has shifted to an online format, through services such as Fresh Direct in New York City. However, for consumers not living in major urban areas or who do not have access to a computer, as is frequently the case with the elderly, there is a need and a demand for individuals to go grocery-shopping for them. Offering a grocery shopping service for the elderly would enable elderly consum
| 438 | Othello's Sad Misreading There are many interpretations of William Shakespeare's play Othello. Many see him as a victim and many see him as a jealous fool. Both of these assertions are true. However, when Othello speaks at the end of the play, we find it difficult to believe he loved well. Othello reads himself incorrectly here. Interestingly, the truth allows him to see something that does not exist. He did not love wisely or well because he acted like a fool throughout the entire play. The goodness of Othello's nature is only reflected upon by others early in the play, but unfortunately, we never get to see any of that goodness. Instead, we are confronted with a very jealous man that is not capable of seeing any good characteristics in his wife once a bad
| 824 | Database Management: Decision of Adopting Open Source DBMS or Not in a Small Firm As the IT Manager of a small firm considering the use of open source DMBS including MySQL Server versus going with a proprietary DBMS like Microsoft SQL Server or Oracle 10g Express Edition there are several factors to consider. The initial cost and yearly maintenance fees of the DBMS chosen, level of customization possible with each DBMS to the firms unique process requirements, security of each type of DMBS, frequency and complexity of updates, and upward compatibility to more enterprise-class DBMS platforms more suitable for a larger company. These areas of cost and maintenance fees, customization, security, update management and upward compatibility have all favored open source DBMS applications (Casati, Castano, Fugini, 2001). In

| 1047 | Ethical Issues in School Counseling Article Critiques
Elementary and Middle Level Counselors' Courtroom Hearing Experiences
(Davis, 1995, 10-15)
The author recognizes the various roles and duties school counselors and administrators face. Oftentimes, these tasks entail heavy legal and ethical consequences. There is an increasing list of barriers that hinder children to learn fully, and these are poor health and malnutrition, psychological stress, family problems, use of drug and alcohol, depression, suicide, and even pregnancy (Davis, 2002). These social problems may necessitate the school counselor or administrator to participate in legal matters. This study attempted to measure the prevalence of court interaction and the types of cases they might need to encounter.
| 1117 | Georgia's Natural Resources: An Explanation Of Historical And Contemporary Success Located between Russia and Turkey and surrounded on the Eastern boarder by Azerbaijan and Armenia, the country of Georgia has been the seat of numerous kingdoms and empires throughout history. From the kingdoms of Colchis and Kartli-Iberia before Christ to the Roman and Ottoman empires during the classical periods to the Russian empire and even the USSR in a more contemporary age, Georgia has long enjoyed its status as a crossroads for ethnic and religious groups. Home to Muslims, Christians, Arabs, Persians, and more, the area is rich and diverse-a conquest worth making for many emperors across history (CIA). Today, as an independent republic, the country of Georgia boasts both a strong economy and an often-stable government, although r
| 1131 | Comparing Microsoft Excel and Database Management Introduction
From being designed primarily for personal productivity, Microsoft Excel is inherently a personal productivity database meant for individual and small team use, while enterprise database management applications and platforms are meant for much greater and wide-spread use across organizations. The intent of this paper is to profile the differences and similarities in their functions, and explain how each is ideally suited for a given set of tasks and the reasons why this is. The bottom line is that both are essential for operating a business of any size.

| 314 | Entering a New Foreign Market Industrial plastics manufacturing is a trade which has gained increasing ground as a launch-pad for participation in the globalization of production and resource exchange. U.S. based, plastic injection company, Riordan Manufacturing is a suitable example. Characterized as a leading firm in its field, and already boasting locations that while not numerous, are at least in settings that are quite distinct from one another, Riordan's production and contracting operations have already been subjected to cultural adaptations. However, in our consideration of its potential investment in a huge but somewhat under-developed economy such as Russia's, cultural considerations must be heavily influenced by practical, legal and ethical imperatives. | 865 | Aristotle: Nicomachean Ethics and Human Morality Just Acts vs. Acting Justly:
Aristotle distinguishes the concept of performing a just act from the concept of
acting justly. Primarily, that distinction relates to the underlying motivation or purpose
of performing the just acts. Just acts, such as those with beneficial consequences to other
that are not specifically intended, may very well be consistent or in-line with justice, but
without necessarily constituting acting justly. According to Aristotle's Nicomachean
ethical principles, acting justly consists of performing just acts whose motivation is
specifically to achieve just aims; a necessary element of acting justly is desiring that such
acts achieve a just purpose.

| 1353 | Jealousy Examined in Shakespeare's Othello The most predominant theme in William Shakespeare's play, Othello, is the danger of jealousy. Othello is a good man brought to his knees by his jealous and suspicious heart. Shakespeare teaches us the frailty of the human psyche and the delicacy of the human heart in this tale of trust and utter betrayal. Othello has a solid marriage and a devoted wife but these things bec
| 303 | The Canterbury Tales: Analysis and Comparison of Two Essays The purpose of this paper is to introduce, discuss, and analyze two essays on "The Canterbury Tales" by Geoffrey Chaucer. Specifically it will summarize and compare the two essays. These two essays discuss different aspects of Chaucer's "The Canterbury Tales," from what inspired "The Knight's Tale" to his use of violence and history in the work, and what that means for readers. "The Canterbury Tales" is an epic poem told in the voices of several travelers who are journeying together on a pilgrimage to Canterbury in England to visit the shrine of Saint Thomas Becket at Canterbury Cathedral. A different pilgrim tells each of the tales, including the knight, who begins the poem with his tale of his crusades in the East, and the life of Theseus, a tale first told in the "Decameron," which many people believe inspired Chaucer's work. The two essays chosen represent discussion about the "Knight's Tale," along with general violence and history in the tales
| 1537 | Marketing Plan: Internal and External Forces that Impact the Development of a Grocery Shopping Business I. Executive Summary

| 916 | Database Management: Security Section I: Fundamentals of Databases
The value of databases is in their ability to assist organizations of all types to be more efficient while streamlining the core processes they rely on. To accomplish this, databases must be relational in structure (Greene, 2008), supporting the structure of tables, records, and relational associations across multiple physical databases. The mission-critical role databases play in organizations is a direct result of their ability to support multiple, and often conflicting data models. Each variation of a data model also relies on tables that are most often two dimensional in scope. Databases are also capable of providing multi-dimensional analysis of data in cubes and pivot tables (Hanna, 2004). Th
| 1929 | Huddled Mass Transit Riders Give Me Your Poor, Your Tired, Your Huddled Mass Transit Riders,
Yearning to be at Work on Time
In Matt Welch's Opinion Article, Once I took the railroad... Why nobody, but nobody will ever take mass transit as long as they have a choice, he seems to regard mass transit as only an option of last resort. Worse, he sees it as a signature mark of being poor. In fact he states quite bluntly that it is, "A way for poorer people to get around until they become rich enough to buy a car." (Welch, 2007) This is the very mindset that has the planet on the edge of extinction and single people driving cars adding to the greenhouse gases that are contributing to it. While one cannot blame Mr. Welch for his point of view, since this does seem to be
| 951 | Atomic Bombs: Pros and Cons It is over six decades since the United States dropped the atomic bombs on Japan during World War II, yet the controversy about the validity of this decision continues in scientific, political and general public circles. Most likely, due to the complexity of the issue and never knowing the outcome if the bombs were not dropped, it will remain unresolved. A lesson that is continually learned in the U.S.-once again in present times-is the importance of acting from facts and not from emotion. It is hoped that all pros and cons are very seriously weighed before any action is taken if and when such a serious decision must be made in the future.
One of the main reasons why people have supported the dropping of the nuclear bombs is due to milit
