The Creation of a Child

             The birth of a child is a beautiful thing. Most parents will do anything for their children, and when their child's life is threatened, it seems like the parents of that child life is also threatened. Every day children are born with deadly diseases, nutritional deficiencies and crippling birth defects. Many times, modern day medicine can correct or make living with these ailments manageable, and others times medicine can do nothing.
             In such cases as the latter, the parents of these sick individuals are left looking for answers, second and third opinions, and basically anything to save their child's life. Losing a child is a very terrible thing, the pain and sorrow it brings a parent and a family is truly unimaginable, so to avoid having to deal with the death of a child some desperate parents turn to having a "designer baby". A child whose sole purpose for being created is to save the life of another. What threat does this pose to the family and how could this be an ethical or moral dilemma?
             In October 2001, Zain was diagnosed with beta thalassemia major. This is a serious genetic blood disorder, in which a critical blood protein (beta globin) is missing from the oxygen-carrying red blood cell. The lack of beta globin leads to the death of most of the red blood cells, which causes severe anemia. As a result Zain receives blood transfusions every four weeks and endures difficult therapies for the removal of excess iron introduced into his body by the multiple transfusions. The excess iron can damage his liver and heart creating even more problems. Zain also has drugs pumped into his stomach for twelve hours, five nights a week.
             His only chance for survival was a successful bone marrow transplant. Multiple different members of the family were tested in order to find a suitable match for the bone marrow transplant, but
