Excessive Patriotism

            I feel excessive pride in being a citizen of the United States is extremely prevalent amongst the majority of the population. In times of war, depression, or massive tragedy it is perfectly logical for the commonfolk to "gel" or have a heightened sense of unity. This, is perfectly healthy and imperative to the success and health of a developing nation. Blindness to history, that is the foothold of my argument and state of awe towards American Pride. Also the way we have treated our citizens.
            
             The utter repugnance of the impurities in this society, cripples and sickens me. Like the feeling induced by a dirge to be played at an unborn child's funeral, we march not brainlessly but soullessly to our demise. The structure of this whole society, every fundamental building block, every civil institution was founded on hate. There is nowhere on this planet that the breed of the creators of this country can go and say they've made peace. In their own homes such a claim cannot be sustained. The very enforcers of our laws are predisposed to abuse, rape, and adultery. In fact 18% more likely to commit such horrid acts (Encarta). As of late a terrifying thought has repeatedly manifested itself in my mind. Those in political positions perhaps aren't always doing so to ease a craving to better the world. Possibly because it's the right thing to do. More possibly to ease a primal yearning, or desire to attain what we all desire to a certain extent, power.
            
             This country was founded and built upon a profitable work force, slaves. It was not until this country had a firm grip financially and politically that this practice was abolished. In fact it wasn't until 1917 that the last Native Americans were freed(Bury my Heart at Wounded Knee). Although such a travesty, I must admit our country is in the process of reparation.
