Change
The denotation of change could be identified as when something is altered or made different. Our core focus 'changing perspectives' can be defined as a shifting or altering in one's mind of a preconceived view. Cosi by Louis Nowra displays numerous issues where there has been an alteration in perspective such as sanity/insanity, appearance and reality and freedom. To compliment this reasoning of change, a number of texts have been chosen to enhance the value of changing perspectives.Perspectives on sanity and insanity have assisted to shape my knowledge of the meaning of change in Cosi. At the commencement of Cosi the playwright has manipulated Doug's vocabulary to incorporate vulgar language. 'You his girlfriend, nice tits' -Doug This shows that he has no social civility and therefore Nowra's language technique encourages the audience and Lewis and Nick to view him as 'crazy', and below them as if he is lower on the scale of humanity, which broadly represents all the mental patients. 'Mad actors are bad enough, but mad men...' -Nick (pg 1)Nick's view that the mentally ill are 'mad' remains the same throughout the play while the audience and Lewis undergo a process of change. Lewis begins to perceive them as 'nor
In Sky High by Hannah Robert (text 3, stimulus booklet) this issue of freedom is also explored. Consequently these two texts are valuable as they helped me to broaden my understanding of change. He then realised he had the ability to live life properly. Another text that shows changing perspectives on sanity and insanity is Life Without Zoloft. Therefore the issue of what appears to be may not be the reality helped to broaden my comprehension of change. It is a reflection on the persona's childhood. ) 'It is very sad to grow up feeling worthless, hopeless and alone. 'This process of changed self-perspective occurred because he joined a support group (ASD) of other individuals with a similar disorder to help him think positively and confidently. The issue of freedom has also enhanced my understanding of change. 'Time to go sweetheart' I whispered into the blonde's auralorifice. At first it is a reflection on her childhood freedom but then shifts as her responsibilities shift to an older, wiser sense of freedom. An additional text The Life and Crimes of Harry Lavender by Marele Day also shows a change in view of this issue. Next time I shook him 'C'mon, mate, wake up'Directly prior to this passage the persona is described as a hard drinker, promiscuous, untidy and capricious which automatically makes the reader think it is a male. Not a flicker of an eyelid or a murmur.
