Zoroastrianism
Zoroastrianism was founded by the Persian prophet and priest Zarathushtra, or Zoroaster, which is the Greek translation of his name. Some believe that Zoroaster lived in what is now western Iran between 628-551 B.C. Others think he came from central Asia sometime between 1700 to 1500 B.C. Another theory states he came from north-eastern Iran in the sixth century B.C., a few years before the Buddha. Yet, others believe he existed over three thousand years ago. However, scholars say he lived during the transition from the Stone age to the Bronze Age around the thirteenth century B.C. (Cavendish 125). Zoroaster is thought to be the very first monotheist. "His teachings include the concept on one god (Ahura Mazda), heaven and hell, the coming of a savior figure, the resurrection of the dead, and a last judgment" (Clarke 121). It is said by Zoroaster that God came to him in a revelation and told him the truth about god and man. According to the Zoroastrian religion Zoroaster, at the age of thirty went to a nearby river at dawn to get some water. When he arrived at the river he saw a bright light that brought him to god. It is said that god spoke to Zoroaster and gave him a message. He told Zoroaster tha
If his body were to be cut open the scorpions, lizards, and other creatures inside would kill nearly everyone on earth. The main ones are Anahita, Vayu, Anahita, Atar, Haoma, Rapithiwin, Verethraghna, and the most important and worshiped Mithera. According to Zoroastrian religion Once God's creation had been accomplished, Angra Mainyu attacked it. However, they also believe that Ahura Mazda is not all powerful because there is evil in the world. The priest is then sent on a nine day retreat (Clarke 122). All three will be born of a virgin, who are impregnated by a seed of Zoroaster in a lake. When Angra Mainyu is defeated all of the souls will leave hell and go to heaven (Cavendish 129). He prevents Aeshma from causing an enormous amount of evil in the world. The molten metal which has levelled the earth and swept over men will flow into hell, consuming the stench and contamination which characterizes that place, so that all will be rendered impotent if not annihilated"(Hinnells 68). Zoroastrians believe that Ahura Mazda created seven lesser gods known as the Amesha Spentas to help him fight against evil. After that Zoroastrianism spread all through Iran and other countries. Once he was defeated again he was sent back to hell and everything that he destroyed was recreated (Hinnells 56-59). It was finally put to a halt when the Muslims invaded Iran in the seventh century A. Each of them also has a responsibility to protect Ahura Mazda's creations.
