Reflection Paper

            On Friday December 6th I went to the doctor. During this visit, I was told that I was seven weeks pregnant. Words could not describe the elation and anticipation I was feeling at the reported news. Excitedly, before leaving the doctor's office I had informed my husband and entire family. I felt that I was receiving my Christmas present nineteen days early this year.
             My first pregnancy exam was scheduled for the 23rd, just two days before Christmas. The visit to the doctor proved incredible and I was able to see the baby on the monitor. My doctor informed me that everything was well and the expected day of arrival for the new baby.
             This past Christmas Eve, one of my favorite nights, I spent the night with family. This Christmas Eve was the first in my sister's new house and she had a dinner for the family. It was a spectacular evening. I was spending it with the joyous thoughts of an expected baby and watching my son making cookies for Santa. Although, I had a wonderful time that evening I was experiencing slight pain and discomfort.
             As the evening progressed and we traveled home the pains were becoming constant and increased in intensity. Never having experienced this with my first pregnancy I called my obstetrician. I was truly concerned and full of fear. My physician insisted that this is a common experience during the first trimester. He continued by telling me not to be concerned and to stay off my feet. He ended the conversation by telling me to rest and to continue enjoying my holiday.
             Although I was extremely concerned and worried I had to do my best not to show it for the sake of my son. He was enjoying Christmas and I decided Christmas needed to be about the four-year-old boy with the smile in his eyes. My holiday was complete with the excitement the day brought for my son and the rest of my family and following the advice given by my physician.
