We always hear the news about the hacker broke into the company's computer system and damaged all the data. The word ¥hacker' often used in the media, for what we should call a ¥cracker' to refer the person who commits the computer crime. Usually the hackers may put that useful and interesting information into Webpage and share with public. Crackers make use of technology to commit crime. We should know the difference between the two. The main difference between hacker and cracker is hackers create things while crackers destroy things. Instead, they hack into the system to perform some useful functions. The second reason is the crackers like calling themselves as hackers because they think that they are also the computer experts. The job of hacker is not as same as what the media says that is to destroy the computer system. There are two reasons for the people to mix them up. Sometimes they also debug other's free software in order to make it as good as possible. When hackers break into the system not for creating purpose, but for harming someone's benefits, they are no longer considered as hackers, but crackers. Most crackers started out as hackers. Some hackers may challenge themselves by writing free software that meet a widespread need of people.
