Literary Analysis of William Blake's Lamb
Little Lamb, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee? Gave thee life, and bid thee feed By the stream and o'er the mead; Softest clothing, woolly, bright; Little Lamb, who made thee? Dost thou know who made thee? Little Lamb, I'll tell thee, Little Lamb, I'll tell thee: Little Lamb, God bless thee! Little Lamb, God bless thee!1. PERSONIFICATION - "Little Lamb, who made thee? / Dost thou know who made thee?" The lamb is being addressed as if it can respond to the author's question. This makes the lamb look innocent as if the author is asking a little child a question.
SYMBOLISM - "He became a child" Another Jesus symbolism where he is seen as the child of God. In the bible Jesus says "I am the Lamb of God". ALLITERATION - "He is meek, he is mild" The alliteration here gives a sound of a low hum or lull. SYMBOLISM - "Little Lamb, God bless thee" The final symbolism with the Blake asking God's blessing of Jesus.
