Internet Site Review of The Music's of Norway
Beginning my search for internet sites with information on Norwegian music, I started at the yahoo.com search engine. I entered “Music of Norway” into the search engine; and my computer loaded a rather large list of internet sites relating to my field of inquiry. By reading descriptions of the internet sites, I narrowed my selection down to three web sites that correspond with the topic I have chosen. The titles of the web sites are: Norwegian Music Information Centre, The Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, and Folknorth Directory of Nordic Traditional and Contemporary Folk Music and Dance. The Norwegian Music Information Centre, is found at http://www.mic.no/. This web site is very informative for anyone who has interest in traditional Nordic music and / or customs. The home page lists links to different sections of the site, including: Catalogues of printed music, an Address guide to music in Norway, Biogr . . .
The web site also offers an HFAA membership opportunity for fans on the Hardanger Fiddle. In conclusion, the three internet sites I selected all contained useful information on Norwegean music and culture. This web sites contains cultural information on all of the northwestern European countries. One highlight of this web site is that it contains a public archive with music clips from Hardanger fiddlers, which would be very useful for someone who has never heard Nordic music. It gives examples of the several different genre’s of Nordic folk music. This is very useful for one who is studying lyric patterns of Nordic folk music, as it gives information about the rhyme scheme of different traditional Nordic folk songs. The Hardanger Fiddle Association of America, found at http://www. WORKS CITED: 1) Norwegian Music Information Centre http://www. Last, this web site gives a useful timeline of Nordic music history. This web site has a very useful frequently asked page, it has answers to just about any questions you would have about the HFAA. The biography section gives an alphabetical list of Norwegian composers, great for information on Nordic symphony. Last, this web site has a vocal music page. The site has an instruments page that describes the instruments used in traditional Nordic music, from the most common to the least common.
