According to the British Medical study The Boxing Debate, 361 deaths have occurred worldwide in the ring since 1945(NHMRC). Boxing is way below some other sports such as football when contact sport fatalities are compared. You don't see people trying to ban high school or college football. Of course not. The general public would not tolerate it. So why is boxing targeted as such a negative sport? Many say it is because the object of the sport is to purposely harm your opponent by inflicting blows to their head and body which can, in turn, lead to serious injuries, especially to the brain. Boxing is not the only sport where physical injury is the objective. Many martial arts have sparring versions that have been going on for many years. Kickboxing, Karate, Judo, and Tae kwon do are all competitive contact sports just to name a few. So if you were to ban boxing you would have to ban these sports too. So, do we have the right to ban a sport that is just as competitive and dangerous as any other?
             Fights have drawn crowds since the beginning of time. And everyone always gathers around when there's a fight in the hallway. It's a natural thing to want to see two people go at each other. In boxing's case, it is an organized fight where their hands are protected with gloves, they have a mouthpiece in to protect their teeth, and there are doctors around just in case something goes wrong. The professional boxing fights may last from one to twelve rounds. Which was reduced several years ago from 15 for safety reasons. The duration of each round is limited to three minutes. A referee usually stands in the center of a ring and observes how the fighting rules are followed and end a fight if one contender is too injured. Some rules allow the presence of two to four referees outside the ring.
