How does the moment become so important in to his whole way of looking at life.And how does it set him apart from the other characters.From the time that vinsent lined up against his brother for the second time inthe movie, he was a changed man. He just didn't know it yet. It WAS the momentthat made everything else possible. For the first time in his life he was ableto realise that he could match it with valids. He didn't care how much it took,he was going to beet his brother on this swim. He saved nothing for the wayback, and this was the same throughout the whole movie.After that moment he was in control of his own life, no longer was someone elsegoing to tell him what he could and couldn't do, and if the tried to it wouldonly spur him on futher. He had now become his own man with his own goals anddreams that no one could pry away from his grasp. The gap that lay between himand the valid's had been drastically reduced and he was only a stones throw awayAfter the swim he imedently headed off for the stars, he finally built up thecourage to leave home and see were his life was going to take him. It got himwork all around the country cleaning toilets and other work of that
He had to have the painful surgery to makehim taller. This was another test of his commitment and humane spirit, all ofthe other characters would have shied away at this stage, no matter how much ugenetically modify humans there's still no way of createing humane spirit, andthat's what all of the valid's lacked the most, the guts and determination to goout and do something you shouldn't be able to do. The most imporant thing that his victory over his brother gave him was thaability to forget past failures, no longer was he to be hauted by7 never havingdone anything well and being a burden to the rest of the community. As an invalid, and the fact that he has to work so hard vinsent appreciates hisquality of life a lot more than the valid's in the same position as him. As a valid Irenestill feels exstreamily in valid due to this heart condition, she doesn't Evanbelieve that once Jerome knows of her heart condition that he still wants to bewith her, she treat's her self as an in valid with a highly contagious deasise. He couldtotally forget about his past and focus of the future. He had been winning allhis life and no one made anything of it, but when he lost the pressure was sogreat that he tried to take his own life. I think every time he looks up he's thinking abouthe's victory over his brother, that's the reason he's here, that's is what madehim know that he has the chance, and now that he's got it he's not going to letanyone take it from him. Although healready knew that the gap was very small, between him and the valid's he stillrealized that he was going to need something more than he had at the moment. Unlike all the other characters in gattaca this wasn't enough for vinsent to shyaway from his goal, he new how close he was already, and he had the courage andfighting spirit that is necessary to go on and achieve this great dream of his. He's willing to use whatever is around him to get where he's going. Vincent has to work 24 hours a day 7days a week to keep up this identity as Jerome, if he leaves one eye lash of onepeace of skin anywhere the gigs up, and his whole life of effort and hislifetime dream will be over for ever. In the end all it took was a bit of truegut's and humane spirit to show through and then we saw who the true hero is,not someone who has always had everything handed to them on a plate, but someonewho deserves the title as the movie's hero. The real valid's walk past as if nothing is happening,the only other one that stops to look up is Irene, this is because deep down shesulfur's the same fate as visent, she knows she'll never be able to get up therebecause of her heart condition. The only thing that was important was getting there in the firstplace and proving to himself that he could be whatever he wanted to be no matterwho got in his way.
