Internship essay

             As I nervously entered the cold building that Monday morning unsure of where to report, my palms slowly grew sweaty and I seemed to be at a shortness of breath as I was anticipating my first day of work with a group of people I have never met, at a place I was unfamiliar with. I started to count the purple and gold checkers that lined the hallway walls like an oversized and discolored checkerboard. As I found my way I re-introduced my self to my manager who I had met briefly the Friday before. I complemented her in an attempt to charm her. My clever tactic was successful I had won her over instantly. As I further got to know all the people around me known as my colleagues I seemed to slowly descend from my state of edginess and nervousness. I started to feel as if I belonged, I was now an official member of Citigroup. I saw it as if I was more than an employee of the company but an exclusive member of a working class community.
             My internship as a Citigroup employee began the 7th of June 2004 and concluded the 6th of August 2004. The duration was a total of nine weeks. It was a standard office job which meant 9 to 5 with an hour lunch. The pay for the extent of the internship was eight dollars per hour. I was assigned to a group of five women who ran the work order and procurement sector of the company. My immediate manager was Wendy Z.
             The company Citigroup does a vast array of services for its customers. Citigroup is composed of three major sectors which include global and corporate investments, global asset management, and global consumer services. The name Citigroup it self has an extremely long history behind it. For a century and a half Citigroup has been at the forefront of the banking industry. Citibank, a major branch of Citigroup, not only is the largest commercial bank in the world but it pioneered the concept of mutual funds, invented the CD, and introduced the ATM.
