Outcome of The Thirty Years War
Essay: Outcome of the Thirty Years War The Thirty Years War was a war that had a huge impact on life as we know it today, and it also helped mold the ideals of religious freedom. For so long, the Catholic Church was not only the sole accepted denomination of religion, but it was also a major political power that dominated the world for a period of time, and in some aspects still today have a great deal of influence politically in society. But the Thirty Years War was not only the most influential war, but also one of the most violent. This shows that the war was fought with dedication and faith in which people were willing to die for to preserve. During this war, the world saw its first real movement away from the Catholic Church. Many different religious groups sought freedom in practicing their own beliefs without having to abide by the traditional Catholic beliefs, as the Roman Catholic Church had become corrupt in many ways. The church was strict on its subjects, yet church officials did not seem to have to comply to the same rules and regulations the church set forth for the people. One example of a break from the Catholic Church that had a significant effect was Martin Luther and the Lutherans. Luther long believe
With his 95 Theses, he challenged Catholic views and laws and debated the true meaning in which one finds salvation. "Calvinism actually replaced Lutheranism as a dominant protestant force in Europe. If you look at other countries that do not have that freedom you may also notice a strong pattern of violence and rebellion among the people of those countries. It is because of men like that that our founding fathers were wise enough to set fourth in our constitution freedom of religion. Something else that I think the Thirty Years War had influence on is the separation of church and state, where no state could determine that sole religion of its people. The Thirty Years War is credited as being a religious war, but religion was not the only factor. When you look at it as a whole, you can see that all the lives lost and all of the blood shed were not for nothing. Of course, since a country and its people greatly depend on the ruler and the laws they set forth, with so many different rulers throughout the years choosing their preference in religion, it made it difficult for people to truly believe in one thing or another. Though the Holy Roman Empire had a hand in much of the cause not only religiously but politically as well, different families and different rulers and kings struggled for land, power, and preservation of the throne within their families. Though there are still many strong beliefs that each side has that contradict the beliefs of the other, both the Catholic Church and Protestant churches in all denominations have the right to assemble, and the right to believe as they choose. The Catholics sought to end the Protestant movement, and actually I think that after fighting over it for so long, both sides finally decided to put an and to the blood shed and reach a middle ground. As most of the focus is on The Catholic Church vs. Protestants, these two protestant groups battled each other to be the primary branch of Protestantism. It is hard to believe that something that happened so long ago could have such an impact on the live that we live today. In a sense, the struggle for political power that extended from Pope's to Kings, to Queens, to their children, and to the subjects of both the ruler and the church, greatly contributed to the cause of the Thirty Years War.
