Tobacco Demarketing

With all of the controversy surrounding the tobacco industry, I believe that it would be an ideal candidate for demarketing. The tobacco industry seems to have all the odds stacked against it these days. It seems like every time you turn on the news there's some kind of lawsuit being filed against the tobacco companies. Now I'm not defending tobacco. I don't smoke, and personally I can't stand people smoking around me. It can't be overlooked that the tobacco industry is being targeted by almost everybody. With th

Another benefit of demarketing might be that it could help these companies lay low for a while. Many of the accusations surrounding these companies are that they are targeting minors in their advertising campaigns. These ads would only be seen by people who frequent these places, so they would be less likely to be scrutinized. Smoking seems to be initiated by a desire to "fit in". They need to demarket their product and redirect their advertising away from young people. It would help to keep them out of the spotlight. is being the case, I believe that's its time for them to demarket their product a little bit. Places where only adults are allowed. They could also try to redirect their ads to specific age groups. Why not try to advertise in places where people want to "fit in" socially? They could concentrate on advertising in places like bars and clubs. The issue is what can they do to keep from being sued in the future. Some of the money saved could also be used on lowering the products price. Why not just cut back on advertising? This would accomplish two things: it would cut expenses to help pay for these lawsuits, it would keep people from bringing future lawsuits against these companies. As the public begins to see and hear less about tobacco, the less it will be concerned with the issue of tobacco.
