What is peer pressure
What is peer pressure? Peer Pressure, in my opinion, is the negative or positive influence of people of about the same age or status as you. Everyday teenagers and adults experience peer pressure. Throughout my years in middle school and high school, I encountered peer pressure everyday. There was the pressure to drink or smoke because everyone was doing it and it was the cool thing to do at the time. Before I graduated high school I saw classmates go to jail for possession of marijuana or they were so strung out on drugs that they did illegal things that they are now doing time for. I did not allow myself to be pressured to do alcohol or drugs, but I have in the past been persuaded by my peers to become involved in activities that I knew were negative in nature. When I was in the seventh grade, I found myself associating with kids that had bad reputations. All the kids in the neighborhood thought they were cool. When I started hanging with them, I started getting into a lot of trouble with my parents for not coming home on time or disobeying them. We find it more comforting to turn to our friends for advice, because we feel like they can understand us better than our parents can. The peer pressure that I experienced was from the females in the program. Encourage youth to have a positive set of values so that when they are pressured to do negative things they will draw on these values and "do the right thing. I stayed up many nights studying all night or rereading a paper over and over because I had to make the best grade. Adults usually perceive peer pressure as being something that is more negative than positive and can harm their children. Most of the time I just ignored her because I knew I was not a bad kid I had just gotten caught up with the wrong crowd. Like the saying goes, "It takes a whole village to raise a child. My point is that peer pressure can make a good kid go bad, but that does not necessarily mean that the child is bad. Teenagers are robbing stores, shooting, killing each other, adults and their literally putting their lives and the lives of others in danger all because of peer pressure. Those who make the high rank are the ones who make the highest A or the highest B. I dealt with the pressure by trying to do my best. Peer pressure is impacting the life of youth everyday.
