Authors use different symbols to represent the personalities of characters. In the novel, The great Gatsby, F. Scott Fitzgerald uses different colors to represent the facade of his characters Daisy, Gatsby, and Nick. There are certain colors that describe the way a person may act or feel. Daisy gives off the vibe that she is a very innocent, ditsy person and loves to have fun with everyone and anyone. Daisy wears white because it makes people think that she is innocent and sweet. She wears white so people will believe that she is happy and everything is perfect when the reality is that her life is empty and dull and lacking a sense of substa
"I, too, was hurrying toward gayety and sharing their intimate excitement"(62). Another character, Gatsby, is described with bright colors. Gloomy colors are used to describe Nick's feelings of loneliness. A person may act a certain way to hide a felling that is unwanted. Nick always felt alone and like nobody wanted him and he tried so hard justs to fit in with the people around him. Shirts with stripes and scrolls and plaids in coral and apple green and lavender and faint orange with monograms of Indian blue"(98). He tries to win Daisy over by buying her things that cost a lot because he thinks that is what she wants. When Nick turns 30, he says to himself "before me stretched the portentous menacing road of a new decade"(143). "She went with a slightly older crowd- when she went at all"(80). He does everything her can to win her away from Tom.
