A Cultural Artifact

Family Albums, " A Cultural Artifact"Family albums have played an important role as navigators of familial ideology and possessions of familial memory. Most family photograph albums contain a great variety of items, both identified and unidentified held together by this collective identity with the family. When family albums are put together we are reminded of our family history and possess sentimental ties within the family. Viewing photographs of deceased loved ones enables the families to manuscript their lives as they happened and to remember all the memories they had made. I believe that family photographs are form of cultural artifacts and express unity, emphasis, and coherence. The unity of my family's photo album has so much significance clustered into one book. All the events that took place throughout the history of my life are all kept together collectively. The album seems so insignificant to others, yet it carriers so much meaning to me personally. It is a united visual of my past and present life. It shows a way of communication and indicates how my family interacts with each other and our relationship among us. This collogue emphases what life is really about to me. It highlights the most important

By having a wedding photo album this once in a lifetime special day will be kept in my memory as well in my family history for the rest of my life and beyond. The most fabulous part of my baby photo album is that not only does it incorporate many pictures of my infancy to my youth it also includes cultural artifacts of me as an infant. Family photo albums represent times of happiness and sadness, but as a whole they are one item that can inform us of our family history in such a significant way. One photo that is particularly special to me is a group family shot at my high school graduation. Some of the photos have a positive and negative outlook on me. events that have happened to me in my life so far. I definitely want to provide this joyful experience to my own children because I feel that I truly have benefited from knowing about my youth, even events that I do to this day I do not remember. When I was a little girl, my mom would sit me and my two sisters down and for hours she would describe the stories and memories that she had of my ancestors. For example, each of my sisters has a lock of our own hair included in our baby photo album to symbolize the first significant event of our lifetime, such as our first hair cut. Even though the moments passed me by, pictures keep the memory alive. I know that whenever I am feeling sad or depressed, I can just look back and remember the good times I had with my family who lives so far away because of the pictures that I have in my family album. The picture symbolizes my family sticking together as one. Family photo albums may take time and energy to complete but the reward of it is that my family and I are presented with a book full of memories. For instance, one picture can represent something so happy in my life, such as my first Christmas or birthday party, and another can remind me of sadness from past loved ones that I lost.
