An economic model commissioned by the Analysis and Modeling Group of Canada's Climate Change Secretariat, which takes specific emissions reduction opportunities, concluded that Canada's cost of meeting the Kyoto target would be around $45 billion by 2010. Consequently, the large part of these costs would have to be absorbed by Canadian producers, resulting in the lowering of profit margins and leading to an estimated 15% reduction in return investment. Many people are against the Kyoto protocol (as mentioned above) because they feel it will cost them too much in terms of tax dollars as well as lost jobs.
