Susan, enraged by the fact Lisa read her personal diary, tells Lisa "you will never get out of this place, you are dead and this is the only place that makes you feel alive". Ø In this quote Susan uses death to drive to Lisa the fact that she is dependant on the institute to feel like a real person. Then she turned to the driver and told him to take her home. Unable to cope with the loss of a friend Lisa steals Susan's diary and reads the information inside, all in a desperate attempt to keep Susan from leaving the institute. Ø The use of death is so powerful in her language, Lisa breaks down and cries over the power and truth of the words that nobody would tell her or believe herself. Loaded LanguageØ When nearing the end of the movie Lisa, a girl who Susan became friends with, found out that Susan was being released from the hospital. At the end of the movie Susan thanks, then hugs the nurse (played by Whoopi Goldberg), jumps into the cab and uses narration to tell the audience that 1 year later most of the girls were also released from the hospital and living good lives. "Some I did see and others I never saw again but we were always together, in our hearts".
