Abortion

In the essays by Marquis and Warren their views on abortion could not be any further from each other. Mary Anne Warren argues that women should have no legal restrictions keeping them from aborting a fetus, it's their body and there should be no higher authority than them regarding this decision. Keeping with her stance on the issue she presents a list of five features or traits that roughly define some of the aspects of personhood, among

By losing your life you are being deprived of any future experiences or activities that could happen. the list are consciousness, reasoning, self motivated activity, communication and self awareness. Marquis's value of life itself makes for a compelling argument; he thinks that the loss of one's life is the worst tragedies that can occur. Don Marquis is arguing that only in severe circumstances like pregnancy after rape or if the life of the mother is in jeopardy should an abortion be permissible. Fetus' when aborted are losing that same privilege according to Marquis and that is precisely why abortion is such an inhumane act. Warren makes a valid point that even though we may be able to receive pictures of a baby inside the womb and it may resemble a human being, since a fetus does not exhibit any one of the features on the list then it is not a person at all and by no means can its life be valued for its potential. Even though I am pro-choice I feel that this argument is stronger than Warrens because Marquis is emphatic on everyone's right to life while Warren is trying to make up reasons why abortion is just as justifiable and equal as getting a mole removed.
