And The Home of the Wasteful
It’s something we have all heard many times, but how often do we stop and really think about what a wasteful people Americans are? With so many advantages over smaller countries, we will often take our plentiful resources for granted. Thus, we become very wasteful; maybe even the most wasteful people in the world. Every year, this country produces enough garbage to fill a line of dump trucks all the way to the moon. Can you imagine that? That is a lot of garbage! And we can’t help but wonder how much of that was just wasted. And not only that, but we are also wasteful with our money and food as well. If there is anything to be wasted, you can bet that the American people do it. Today we find ourselves living in a country of fast and easy solutions to everything from family problems to the food we eat everyday... or should I say don’t eat? With fast food restaurants located in every town and city on the map, and our seemingly endless supply of food, it’s no wonder we waste so much food. It’s all too easy to take our . . .
So, with all the food, garbage, and money we literally just throw away all the time, we can safely say that Americans are likely the most wasteful people in the world. And there seems to be nothing yet to change our ways. The Government wastes America’s dollars just as bad, if not worse. These products may seem to make things easier for us, and tend to our lazy-like lifestyles, but in effect they cause just as much trouble as they are made to prevent when they end up in a dump or landfill. We would rather have convenience with fast and easy answers than to be sufficient and have real answers to our problems. That attitude could easily make anyone carelessly wasteful, and that seems to be the attitude that Americans have; likewise, we see we are a very wasteful people. With incidents such as this occurring everyday, who would believe that there are actually starving people in our own country? Who could worry about wasting food when our pockets are full of enough money to buy fast food everyday, and our kitchen cabinets are stocked full? Speaking of our kitchen cabinets, lets take a look at what is in some of them. And it’s not only the everyday citizen that wastes money, it’s the entire country, including government. Looking into the cabinets, drawers, and closets of the average American family, we can find a numerous amount of disposable products. Not only do we waste money on trying to clean up the land that we have wastefully polluted, but billions of dollars are wasted regularly in this country. It wouldn’t be surprising to see someone pull through a drive-through restaurant, order a sandwich only to take two or three bites and then throw it out. So until we realize what we are doing to ourselves, we will continue to be the land of the free and the home of the.
