Animal Rights Terrorism

Animals all across the worlds are terrorized day after day, whether it's for the use of cheap food, safe medicines or the making of a new product. The opinions of many people think that the use of animals for medicine and product making can be decreased. Because the help of the helpless animals in the factories, farms, or laboratories when being put to wrong use is physical cruelty. Cruelty to animals is degrading and considered to be wrong. Animal Rights are as important, if not equally important to human rights. The doctrine of species has encouraged more people to think of animal rights in the same way that the rest of humanity thinks of human rights (Singer, Regan). Animals comprise multi-cellular organisms that have a defined shape, limited growth, can move voluntarily, actively acquire food and digest it internally (Webster's Universal College Dictionary 32). They also have senses and nervous systems that allow them to respond to stimuli, as humans require with great similarity. Certainly animals should be treated humanely, but animal subjects are often necessary in experiments to develop medicines that will sav

" If the use of experimental animals were conducted in accordance with the highest standards of humane care, many of the problems could possibly be settled. Since then the incidents have escalated with 201 of the 313 reported occurrences taking place in 1987-1991 (Woolf 2). The crimes are typically intended to disrupt logging, the recreational use of wilderness, or the use of animals for fur, food or research. However, the number of incidents have declined since 1991, perhaps because of increased security now in place at many institutions increased awareness and censure of violence in support of animal rights activities, and laws such as the Animal Enterprise Protect Act. Sixty-three university facilities and twenty-one private research laboratories and medical centers were hit for a total of more than $42. The institutions hit the hardest by animal rights activities include research (university and private) and agriculture. Congress passed an Animal Enterprise Protection Act, with part in response to radical activities on behalf of animal rights. It has been handled badly, but their prime goal considered is the betterment of humankind. I think we have come very close to that line and we will cross that line, unless we deal with this problem. The most active group by far in these incidents is the Animal Liberation Front; a shadow guerrilla organization derived from the ALF in England. In the Violence, Terrorism and the Animal Rights Movement article it states, "that the more extreme animal rights activists have used tactics of intimidation and terrorism: fire-bombing, vandalism, threats, burglary, and physical harassment in their effort to hobble the advance of science and the saving of human lives". Believed to be a loose organization of fewer than one hundred militant members, ALF is supported in it endeavors by People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals, an aboveground animal rights group that publicizes Alf's violent, fanatic escapades at press conferences. The act makes it a federal crime to cause more than $10 thousand in damages by disrupting activities at commercial and academic enterprises that use animals for food, fiber production, agriculture, research, or testing (Woolf 1). ALF claims responsibility for more than 60 percent of the 313 violent or disruptive acts (Woolf 3).
