Annunciation
I didn't think another visit to the Cloisters would mean much to me. In previous visits, I had noticed the picture on the wall or the sculpture in the corner, glanced quickly at a date or name, and moved on. This time, however, something compelled me to take a closer look, to try to understand the form and context of the works, to see into the artist's mind. I thoroughly enjoyed observing the works themselves and watching others' reactions to those works. Once there, I chose a particular object to write about, considering the formal elements and the effect on the viewer. The background is a bright blue, which provides a clearer view of Gabrielle and Mary and the seriousness of the scenario. Both of the emotions portrayed show the realistic intentions of the artist. In their realistic stances, Gabriel's portrayed as a curly-headed youth, with hair that is short, goldish-blond and very well kept, while Mary's is held back in the normal white cloth, but her brown, straight hair can be seen. The dove is a symbol of Christ and the Holy Spirit. The visual contains enough information to satisfy the audience, but not too much so that one could not make more of the story, which was not necessary.
