Aztec and Mayan Religious Practices

In order to worship their deities the Aztecs built magnificent structures such as pyramids and temples in order to worship their gods. These edifices were used for elaborate ceremonies honoring their gods. The capital city was called Teotihuacan, which is loosely translated to mean, "where the gods dwell." The major structures in Teotihuacan were the pyramids. The smaller pyramid was called the pyramid of the moon. This pyramid was obviously dedicated to the worship of the moon. The largest pyramid was called the pyramid of the sun. This goes to show how much the Aztecs regarded the sun. This pyramid of the sun would of stood around 180 feet high (weaver 175).
