Beowulf: Superman For The 8th Century
Beowulf: Superman For The 8th CenturySince Beowulf was a strong and honorable hero with good values and the ability to think quickly, it seems completely appropriate to turn him into a cartoon character.I think the decision to turn Beowulf into a cartoon character is entirely appropriate since he easily fits in with the type of characters that already exist on many cartoons today. Most of the cartoons on Saturday mornings and on Weekday afternoons have some kind of superhero or hero that young boys like to watch and emulate. However many of these characters are unnecessarily violent and represent evil or evil intentions. While Beowulf's actions were violent, they were necessary and were actions taken in defense of himself and in defense of
"To requite his slaughter whom Grendel slew, As he would have slain others, but all-wise God and the hero's courage had conquered fate. The story of Beowulf has deep roots in European history and could offer a new way of observing a well-known story, while also serving as a history lesson for young children. If he was placed on a television cartoon, Beowulf could serve as a different type of hero - a courageous and positive model for an evil world. Instead he chose to gather his men and go save the other kingdom, even thought it could mean the end of his own life. Considering the qualitys and values held by Beowulf, as well as the legacy he left behind, Beowulf is an obvious choice for a television superhero character. " If these actions had not happened, 'evil' would have prevailed and a far different type of violence would have continued to occur. evil is a popular one that has been represented many times before in cartoons and in other forms of entertainment, but rarely is a story like this one told. All 3 heros had the choice to stay home and carry on with their own lives, but instead they chose to save those who needed it. "This is definately similar to the selfless actions of other very popular cartoon characters such as Superman and Spiderman. Not only did Beowulf defeat the evil force, but he chose to do so for a kingdom that wasn't even his. Since Beowulf's violence killed an evil monster, his actions are percieved as justified, and as a triumph for all of man kind. He could have stayed at home and not interferred with the problem; since it didn't even affect him.
