Bob Marley

             During a concert in New York Bob Marley almost fainted. The next morning, on 21 September 1980, he went jogging with Skilly Cole in Central Park. Bob collapsed and was taken back to the hotel. Several days later it became clear that Bob had a brain tumor and he had, according to the doctors, not even a month to live.
             Bob Marley's music, lifestyle, and outlook on life was greatly influenced by his belief in Rastafarianism, which impacted around the world, especially America.
             The source of the Rastafarianism is found in a specific geographical region the Nile Valley, which consists of northern Egypt and southern Ethiopia. The heart and soul of the philosophy of Rasta comes from this part of Africa. Rasta shares some of the same beliefs as the Egyptians. Such examples are the acknowledgments of Ra, the sun God. Rastafarians share the belief that mankind isn't separate or different from God, or Joh, which is an abbreviation for Jehovah. Rasrafari believes that within man there are three different levels. One is the animal stage where man is controlled by his passion. The second stage is where man is recognized and is governed by his will to command his emotions. The third stage is where he is able to commune peacefully within the inner depths of his existence, which is when one man is considered to be a "Godman" and only one man can achieve this level such as Haile Selassie. Rastafarianism, as it has been practiced in Jamaica since around the 1930's, is a rejuvenation of this very religion.
             The inspiration of the Rasta brought a message to Bob Marley's music. Such lines as "Exodus movement of Jah people" and "Jah come to break down 'pression, and rule equality" (Exodus). Brings a message of equality to all people of all races. These types of Rastafarian lyrics and music would bring crowds of thousands at Madison Square Garden in New York City into a "near peaceful hyster...
