Pearl Harbor
The United States entered World War II after the secret attack of the Japanese at Pearl Harbor. But just how secret was the attack on that pacific harbor? Obviously the army and navy had no clue the Japanese were going to attack, but did Roosevelt have anything to do with it? The attack killed 2,403 Americans and wounded a mere 1,178. Only sixty-four Japanese were killed out of an attack force of thirty-one ships and three hundred and fifty-three planes. However the question still remains; who knew about the attacks and what happened on that pacific harbor on December 7, 1941? The events that led up to the attack started around October of that same year. On October 16th newspapers emphasized the growing danger of war in the pacific. By November 1st the Japanese were in full force. First the Combined Fleet changed their radio codes. Then around the 5th Magic intercepts 6 "deadline" messages to complete negotiation by November 25th. November 7th the Combined Fleet defines vast southern operations to have the first Air Fleet attack Pearl Harbor, the second Fleet attack the East Indies and the Philippines and the fourth Fleet attack Guam. By the 16th the U.S. Navy loses track

They were instead told that no one could air raid Pearl Harbor because of its shallow waters. On December 4th Washington intercepted the "east winds rain" which told the Japanese positions on the attack of Pearl Harbor yet no word was sent to either commander in Hawaii. According to an article from the library's online data base it was the Japanese take over of Indochina and the alliance with Germany and Italy that made the U.
