Fieldwork
My fieldwork done at Shop Etc. included many responsibilities. When I was hired I was told my responsibility was to assist the fashion assistant in whatever she would ask of me. As in most internships, I was given the job, along with the other two interns that I worked with, of bringing coffee to my boss every morning at 9 AM precisely, making photocopies, ordering lunch, and all those glamorous responsibilities. However, my experience as intern also provided me with more thrilling tasks, and great opportunities. As an intern at Shop Etc, I was in touch with many people throughout the day, some including, high-end designers, PR agencies, and very respectable magazine editors. I assisted at photo shoots and keeping the fashion closet organized. I was given the task of requesting and returning samples from designers and public relations agencies and organizing shoes, bags, jewelry, and hats for specific fashion stories. It was my responsibility, in midst of the fast paced and hectic environment, to control the trafficking of clothing samples from both designers and public relations agencies through keeping a record in the computer. When an editor put in a request for an item of clothing, many times, it was my job to locate that item
One of the major problems faced while working at Shop Etc was that the team of workers that I worked with, had no understanding of the Computer. The ability to use a computer keyboard, access the Internet, and complete online forms is as essential in the work force today as the ability to read and write. If her line was busy, she would wait and call again. For example, in Shop Etc, the employees who I worked with need to learn how to send email, how to surf the Internet, and how to use the basic programs. The world is realizing the importance of being computer literate in striving in the workforce. needs to realize computer literacy has become a vital life-skill recognize and the importance of educating their workforces in technology to effectively appreciate the business benefits of technology. Also, on average, those with computer skills are paid 15% more than those without. This page provides the reader with designer clothing that are extremely costly, and then the same styles are shown, at a fraction of the designer prices. For these reasons alone, one should become knowledgeable in dealing with computers. An incentive is a fairly basic idea that can have positive effects in the long run. According to a study conducted by researchers at American College Testing of Iowa City, Iowa, skills that employees themselves said were most frequently required in their daily work were identified. Computers are fusing themselves into virtually every aspect of the way a company runs, and this stirs a problem when the employees are computer illiterate. All these problems could be avoided if these updates were just printed in an email that each employee in the department could check on their own individual computers. According to an article written in the Scholastic Update, computers are used in almost 40% of all jobs today, and will be used more in the future.
