Capital Punishment

             Does capital punishment affect the spirit of the people? No, I feel it does not affect the people. At least not in a bad way. Indeed it is sad to think of someone being executed, but we must remember why they are in that position in the first place. If anything, I think the people would begin to feel a little safer. But lets be honest, people will never feel completely safe. But at least they can begin to have some reassurance.
             Unfortunately there is still a majority of people who do not agree with capital punishment. Why do they feel this way and what are they considering in there decision?
             First off, I feel that everyone feels a little pity for people facing capital punishment. But for some people they feel more than pity, they feel that is it not fair and cruel. They may consider that the act of crime the criminal committed was not directly their fault. It could have been caused they their childhood or even a mental disorder. And because of that they should not be punished so severely. Another reason for not agreeing with it is because they feel it goes against the constitution and human rights.
             Some also believe that the government is enforcing it for the wrong reason. They insist that the government thinks it is a way to put fear into people which would result in less crime. But this is not true at all. Capital punishment is enforced because it is the only fair punishment for certain cases. The phrase an eye for an eye comes to mind. It is only fair if someone takes a life then theirs should be taken as well.
             One of the most important reasons for going against capital punishment is the chance that the wrong person could be executed. Obviously the government has thought long and hard about this. The fact is, the chances of that are very slim. And usually the person convicted had a criminal past anyways.
