Juvenile Casework

             The following paper was written with the intent to give an accurate description of the duties performed by Juvenile Case Managers in the Juvenile Justice System. Through my research on the subject matter and an interview with a Juvenile Case Manager Supervisor, I hope to have attained enough credibility to write about this particular topic. I conducted an interview with Ms. Becky Winokur, Case Manager Supervisor at Bucks County Youth Services on November 13, 2001. The interview lasted approximately forty-five minutes, and also consisted of several phone conversations in which Ms. Winokur provided updated information sources relating to her profession. Before presenting the material obtained during the interview, I hope to define the specific duties of a Juvenile Case Manager. The following is a copy of the official job manuscript containing and duties of a Case Manager in her particular company.
             Youth Services of Bucks County. Inc.
             The position of the Caseworker shall be filled by action of the Assistant Director or Sight Supervisor, Youth Services of Buck County, Inc.
             Accountability: The Caseworker shall be accountable to the Project Coordinator or Assistant Director.
             A. Conduct intake interviews, provide family assessments, develop service plans coordinate services and treatment with other agency personal, provide crisis intervention when necessary, provide outreach services and transportation to clients and otherwise manage case loads assigned by a designated supervisor.
             B. Supervise clients referred by juvenile court, Youth Aide Panels and Police and evaluate the client's compliance with whatever terms and conditions that have been placed on them.
             C. Maintain regular contact with referral sources and report client progress in relation to stated services plan goals and objectives.
             D. Learn and perform other jobs and duties within the agency as requested by supervisors or as needed.
