Certification of Teachers

It is the first day of school and a student walks into his or her very first class. In this classroom there are over thirty other children. Next, the teacher walks in; it is her first day also. She has not been prepared in full for the challenges she will face, for example a large class size. Part of the reason she is not fully prepared is because teacher certification does not have high enough standards to prepare new teachers for all the challenges they might face. Education has become vital to our nation. The nation's strength and well being is resting in the hands of educators. Throughout history in-service teacher education received has decreased in the amount of attention (Goodlad 3-4). Certification of school personnel needs to have higher standards, teachers would be fully prepared for what they will face, students will learn in a better environment, less students would resort or be inclined to be home schooled over public schooling, and students looking into the education field will have a head start on being prepared for the challenges they them self will face. Teachers certification needs to have higher standards because of the fact that the teachers that are starting now are not fu

Scores of homeschoolers who have taken state-mandated tests or who have provided their results to researchers indicate that while some homeschoolers test below average, a larger number test above that mark. If teachers are not properly taught themselves or prepared for what they must face it produces a poor outlook on the education that is provided by that school. "It then becomes increasingly apparent that agencies involved in declaring individuals able to teach (colleges, public schools, and state agencies) must begin to develop techniques for using performance criteria to determine an individual's ability to perform as a teacher in public schools"(Burdin v). Problems arise if the teacher is not prepared in every way. Students being taught early with these standards will do well in the future. "The most useful learning is to have learned how to learn. Education is the foundation of every single persons life and occupation. Teachers influence students every day and for students to get the very best education they can, teacher certification must have higher standards because teachers would be better prepared for all challenges; it would cause a better teaching environment, parents would be less inclined to home school their children instead of public schooling, and students who look to their teachers for a role model in the education field will find the most qualified personnel for that teaching position. "(Hopkins 1) Possibly one of the most common reasons a parent decides to home school his or her child is because there are many under qualified teachers and parents decide since they can not trust the teachers in the school they will teach their children instead. Also, teachers need to have full knowledge of the material they are going to cover. "Seat work assignments were common to large numbers of children, the quick usually finishing and turning to other work, the slow hardly ever completing the assignment. lly prepared for what they are going to experience. Some children need individual help and the best way to get that attention is home schooling. If you set low expectations they will meet them, if you set high expectations they will try their hardest to meet them, and this will help !and prepare them for the expectations that will arise in college. This helps when students ask questions.
