Conflicts between the Palestinians and the Israelis have been continuing for centuries. The current state of affairs between the two cultures has lead Israel to construct a wall around the Palestinian refugee camps. Israel claims this wall is to protect the Israelis from Palestinian terrorists who often attack Israel with their suicide bombers. The Palestinians argue that the wall is being constructed to ensure that the Palestinians don't take any land from the Israelis and stay separated and weak. Whichever reasons Israel has for constructing the wall it is safe to say those reasons did not start recently. To better understand the conflicts that the Palestinians and Israelis currently have the history between the two cultures must be known. A Brief History of the Palestine-Israeli conflict: A Divisive History Judea, home of the Jews in ancient times, was conquered by the Romans and renamed Palestine. Palestine was later conquered and inhabited by Arabs for over a thousand years. The Zionist Movement arose to restore the Jews to Israel, largely ignoring the existing Arab population. Since September 28, 2000, Palestinians have killed over 800 Israelis in terror and suicide attacks. There are now about 4 million Palestinian refugees. This is one similarity between the Israeli/Palestinian situation and the E. The UN has not been able to stop the wall from further completion, which is how it continues to be built today. The Berlin Wall was also constructed to separate two different societies that were existing in Germany at that time (1961 was the year the wall started construction). The Wall is devastating every aspect of Palestinian life-already tens of communities have experienced the loss of land, water, and resources which provide their sustenance as well as the destruction of community and personal property. Yet, Israel did not agree arguing that they need the wall to protect their citizens from suicide bombers. The Palestinians have in turn stepped up terrorist actions and promised increased bloodshed when dealing with Israel.
