Civil Rights

What does it mean to have equal rights? Does it mean we are all alike or does it mean we all should be entitled to whatever life has to offer? The Civil Rights Movement was further clarification of what it means to be free. There were earlier times in history when freedom and equality were addressed, but somehow never fully understood or realized. In the selection the "Merry-Go-Round", by Langston Hughes, we discussed in class how powerful of a piece it was because it was written from a child's perspective. Even a child can see the impossibility of inequality in a circle. They were segregated into different areas of every place they went, every thing they rode, and every public facility they used. To some degree he took this assignment on alone and was dedicated that the freedom he sought would not come from violence. Even though Negroes had been "freed", Dr. King brought it to the public's attention that their freedom was not a true reality. o determine or to give a meaning to front and back and to black and white. He did this by describing in great detail his vision for the future. She shares her own history, her family's lack of material possessions and value of treasured memories. He raised equality to a new level and his work lives on as an inspiration to all. King on the television when she was a child and how it impacted her life. One only has to watch the news to know that inequality is still alive and growing in the rest of the world. King saw the injustice and knew it was his mission to help bring equality to everyone. He lifted up the vision of his followers by giving the hope of a dream of true equality for all.
