Though going to college has its advantages, as receiving a higher education, or getting a good job, yet behind these promising aspects, students undoubtedly face stress at a young age. Midterms, finals, papers, projects, etc. are among those that put students under pressure. However, one could deal with stress by connecting himself with the world outside instead of keeping it inside until he explodes emotionally and psychologically. It is healthy to have 8 hours of sleep a night, but it usually is not the case. Therefore, sleep no longer is a luxury but a necessity. Extracurricular activities also contribute to helping a student escape from his stress. His family and friends affect the student a great deal; his interaction with others and his time alone also are factors in coping with stress. Though spending time with others always help relieving stress, the student also needs time to spend with himself. Even though parents understand how strained their child is in college, the student finds it easier to share his worries with those his age. Parents and siblings give a stressed out student the homely environment that is necessary for his mind, in a way sharing his stress. In addition to family encouragement, having friends around is also an escape for the stressed student. Spending several hours during a weekend to volunteer for a nursing home or to clean his neighborhood would help the student to get away from the vigorous studying environment of college. This is because his friends also undergo stress in a similar environment as he does. Studying in college is a different experience from that in high school; one needs more time to finish his work, thus, less time to sleep. Giving himself the opportunity to make use of these wisely would help the student in the long run in dealing with worries, hardships, tension and anxieties. Those home cooked meals from a student's mother also help alleviate the pressure he endures. He needs them to show their love, their belief in his ability to complete his work. Moreover, in doing extracurricular activities, he also has the chance to interact with friends, meet new people, and feel useful for others in need.
