Communications essay
Throughout the class, we have been describing communication as a transactional process. Transactional is a very key word-this is meaning more than one action involved in the process, meaning listening, speaking or use of symbols. Communication is socially negotiated, agreed upon symbols working in two or more directions, helping to communicate meaning, understanding, or explanation. An example of a socially negotiated symbol could be a table. Instead of referring to a table as a slab of material, suspended by legs with the purpose of providing a surface to eat or work on-rather, we reached a cultural and global understanding that we can refer to it as a table. Communication is that which helps the world-go-round, and allows cultures from all different parts of the world to attempt to communicate and reach understanding of one another. One way this information is useful is in advertising in the Mass Media. Corporations pay people that are highly qualified in society with communications to help build, advertise and maintain their businesses.
