A Computer crime is generally defined as any crime accomplished through special knowledge of computer technology. The person who commits a Computer Crime is a person who violates any of the following things: Unauthorized access to a computer system, A person is guilty of a computer crime when they gain unauthorized access to a computer system knowingthat they are not authorized to do so. Theft of computer services. A person is guilty of the computer crime of theft of computer services when he accesses a computer system with the intent to obtain unauthorized computer services. Interruption of computer services. A person is guilty of the computer crime of interruption of computer services when he, without authorization, intentionally or recklessly disrupts or degrades or causes the disruption or degradation of computer services or denies or causes the denial of computer services to an authorized user of a computer system. Misuseof computer system information. A person is guilty of the computer crime of misuse of computer system information when: As a result of his accessing or causing to be accessed a computer system, he intentionally makes or causes to be made anunauthorized display, use, disclosure or copy
Penalties for committing computer crime range from a class B misdemeanor to a class B felony. Victims often resist reporting suspected cases, because they can lose more from embarrassment, lost reputation, litigation, and other consequential losses than from the acts themselves. Most people think that the young people committing some of these crimes have very detailed knowledge of computer systemsand computer programing. If that technology takes them outside of the boundaries of the law, they will do very little about it. If they can handle this type of knowledge, and commit these crimes, they should be able to foresee the consequencesof their actions. Most of the know computer crimes have consisted of entering false data into computers,which is simpler and safer than the complex process of writing a program to change data already in the computer. Many Hackers define themselves as people who explore technology.
