Police and Criminals within their Society Police and criminals have been at constant war for the domination of society for over a hundred years. Since the creation of law-enforcement these two groups have had their share of victories and losses, yet neither have managed to gain a foothold over the other. Both organisations have expanded into large groups of informants, militia, and everyday employees. Large arsenals of weapons and unlimited financing are the working tools of these groups. Utilising this equipment and personal the criminal and police factions attempt to gain a foothold on their piece of society usually at times with out the care for the public safety in mind. The drug use, stray bullets and other actions of these groups directly or indirectly affect innocent families. With all the conflicts between the two groups there are those who play the roll of police and criminal with out concern for the consequences if they are discovered. Apparently on opposite sides of the law they are in fact operating without borders, crossing into the boundaries of each other's territory. The drive by shooting is a method more popular with American gangs such as the Crypts or Bloods; more refined criminal elements work on a different level all together. And the heavier narcotic used by the intervenous drug user has been limited to certain areas and home use. Having done this the government of Holland has not had to worry about certain criminal elements and can focus more time towards other crimes. We have to ask ourselves "who are we to trust". (Anonymous 3) Noting that the criminal and police often work within the same realm, they believe they are on opposite side of the law. This may be a deterrent towards the importation of narcotics and also prevent the police from receiving any gratuities for ignoring the criminals. There are police officers that do take their jobs seriously, they are there to assure that the person is processed with just cause and get charged with exactly the crime they committed. Politicians themselves have dabbled within these realms and have remained untouchable by the law. An example would be when an individual was incarcerated on weapon charges and identified the narcotics officer as one of the prime dealers for that particular area when asked for information. A criminal's informant consists of someone who works within the police department relaying information back to the criminals or receives money for ignoring criminal activity and not reporting it. If a person is believed to be an informant for the police his/her family or themselves could be tortured to reveal the truth. These people are even worse then the drug lords, for these are the ones who dictate the laws in the society in which we live. (7) On occasions this means that newer prospects may have to admit to a criminal activity that was perpetrated by an older member. When the Tactical Team enters a building in which a possible drug lord or drug fabrication lab is located these adrenaline pumped enforcers of the law can be as careless as the criminals. (Stokstad 76-77) They may not have been the police we are used to today in their uniforms of blue, grey, and black, but the role of law enforcer was portrayed by the military.
