Internet summary

             The website that I used for this internet summary, entitled Speech and Language Development, is a part of the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association website. The website had chart that listed the typical ages that the majority of children will accomplish certain skills in language and talking. It also did the same for hearing and understanding things that others say or do. This website on speech and language development gives parents and caregivers information on activities that can be performed in order to encourage language development in children. The site explains the difference between language and speech by using an example but this particular example deals with a language and speech problem. The site also deals with the use of language or pragmatics.
             The information found on this website can be used when working with children and their parents or caregivers by comparing the skills that the child has already attained to the skills that they should have according to their age on the chart. I could use the information to give the parents or caregivers some suggestions on how to help their children use language correctly. The website reminds me of Piaget's six substages of his sensorimotor stage of communication development. I am not sure if the gatherers of this information used Piaget's sensorimotor stage as a guide to creating this chart, but I was able to see the similarities between the two. The difference between the chart given on the website and the six substages of Piaget is that the time periods are divided differently and they list skills that extend beyond his sensorimotor stage of two-years-old.
