             "Ok, ok. Now I don't want to get any of you excited or alarmed but I sow this on TV. This is for real. On the News today it stated that with in a year the new number one killer in America will be high fat/saturated fat." This stated by Conan O' Brien on his show, "Late Night with Conan O' Brien." A truth so commonly repeated yet so commonly ignored and disrespected as a humorous remark. In the book entitled "Fatland: How Americans became the fattest people in the world" by Greg Critser, we go over to read the historical information that resulted in this plumpish embarrassment. Americans know for to the most powerful, the wealthiest, and the fattest people on earth because of what they eat.
             Fatland is a book that contains research that explains the scientific behavior of fat. As any normal discussion of weight, Fatland talks about how the fast food industry have impacted American. Yet fast foods shouldn't take all the blame, for Fatland continues to explain many concepts as with fat-related illnesses. Six out of every ten adults in the United States are overweight and fat enough to experience related health problems, such as type two diabetes and various other associated liver, eye and coronary artery ailments. Twenty percent of American's lives will be cut short, and more than five million are morbidly obese. This all started because of the changes that happened with the economics of food production in the nineteen-seventies. Under the surveillance of Earl Butz, an agricultural secretary, high fructose corn syrup and palm oil became a highly inexpensive. High fructose corn syrup keep food tasting good and prevented freezer burns, while the palm oil was sold as though to be just as healthy as sunflower oil.
