Death Penalty

             Jesus says "For if you forgive others for their transgressions, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive others, then your Father will not forgive your transgressions" (Mathew 6:14-15). Therefore, if you do not forgive the murderer for his sin then God will not forgive you. In Mathew 7:12, Jesus says, "In everything, therefore, treat people the same way you want them to treat you, for this is the law of the Prophets." Hence you should forgive others for their sins no matter how big it is, because that is how you would like people to treat you. Jesus furthermore proclaims, "You have heard that is was said an eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth, But I say to you, do not resist an evil person; but whoever slaps you on your right cheek, turn the other to him also (Mathew 5:38-39). He is saying that 2 wrongs do not make a right. You do not need to do the same thing that a person did to you just to get even. Mathew 5:21 says, "You have heard that the ancients were told, 'You shall not commit murder' and 'Whoever commits murder shall be liable to the court.' But I say to you that everyone who is angry with his brother shall be guilty before the court; and whoever says to his brother, 'You good-for-nothing,' shall be guilty before the Supreme Court; and whoever says, 'You fool,' shall be guilty enough to go into the fiery hell."
             I am against capital punishment. Two wrongs do not make a right. Some people argue that to put people in prison for life is more expensive and it makes us pay more taxes. This is not a good argument because the death penalty actually costs more than life imprisonment. After adding up all the costs, the death sentence in fact costs in between 2 and 5 million dollars per execution with all the special trials and appeals, while life in prison only costs 1 million.
