Declaration of Independence
Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. These are great words to hear! They are all part of our Declaration of Independence. But, why was it written? The Declaration of Independence was written to declare the freedom of the thirteen colonies and to give the world an explanation of why they separated from Great Britain. In the 1700's Great Britain did not have a good form of government. The colonies believed that if they could separate from Great Britain that they could form their own government. That government would be one that would be better than Great Britain's and they succeeded! I agree with everything the colonies did and I am very grateful to them. The colonies decided to separate from Great Britain because King George and his form of government were not protecting their rights. The colonies felt that they owed an explanation to the world of why they separated from
In my opinion, I believe and agree with everything the Declaration of Independence states. The colonies believed in Life, Liberty, and the pursuit of Happiness. Great Britain was not protecting the rights of the people and the people needed a government that would protect their rights and give them freedom. The pursuance of Happiness has been interpreted as fair economic opportunity, where everyone would have the equal right to make a living. Instead of protecting the peoples' rights, King George violated their rights. Therefore, the government was aware of the rights of its citizens and better able to protect those rights. Whereas, King George refused his Assent to Laws, which would have been the most wholesome and necessary for the public good. The colonies felt they could protect the rights of the people by instituting a government that was derived from the consent of the people. I believe if I was living back in the 1700's, I would have been strongly for the separation from Great Britain. The King was not aware of the need the people had of protection of their rights. I believe the colonies had the right to separate from Great Britain and that nature justified their rights. As you can tell the Declaration of Independence is a very important document to the United States. On the other hand, Great Britain was a government made up of a monarchy, the King.
