A holiday is a type of dedication devoted to a specific event.

Christmas is a day set aside for the remembrance of Jesus Christ’s birth. The people who celebrate these holidays dedicate that day to participate in events that remember that specific period. Time is set aside, and certain things are done, all in the name of dedication. ” (Oxford-English) After reading this definition, the next thing that came to mind was the word holiday.
