Depression

             Depression is a potentially serious disorder that many people unfortunately deal with on a daily basis. Having dealt with someone who has had depression creeping up on them since they were four years old, I know a little about what it takes to live with a person like this. This relationship I am referring to is one between me and a girl with whom I spent four years of my life. It was a very serious relationship that meant a lot to both of us. The reason I am bringing this up is because you can learn a lot about a person in four years. The deepest, darkest secrets are shared. I can remember the first secret she told me. This secret alone made me realize something about her. She told me that when she was four, she was at a lake with her family on a vacation. On this trip something inside of her just snapped and she tried to drown herself in the lake. This to me told me there was more to her than clearly present. Me being very curious when it comes to human beings I decide to devote a lot of time to this girl and to even possibly help her. I spent numerous hours analyzing her and the things she said. I helped her through her depression, which became more and more present the deeper our relationship became. But in the process I gained a vast amount of knowledge on how to interact with her. It took years to even remotely understand where she was coming. But we both knew it when a breakthrough happened, which is why I feel as though I am knowledgeable on this subject and can relate my experiences to that of Claire Dubois.
             Claire had a more severe case of depression than my girlfriend. She almost let herself get to the point of being a lifeless being. Of course, that is not to say that it was her fault. In the cases of my girlfriend and Claire Dubois, outside influence and life experience was certainly the main factor of how they were.
