I am writing this because it seems party activists (Republicans and
Democrats) take for granted that people understand the difference
between the two parties. I want to start by being clear that this is not
and should not be a personal battle or attack. I have no doubt that
Democrats are good people. Republicans are good people too. We both want
We both want what is best for America. We both want to see an end to
poverty. We both want our elderly citizens to live a good life, not to
"choose between rent and medication." We both want our children to have
the best education in the world. We want our children and our citizens
to be safe from criminals. We both want a thriving economy so Americans
can have a long, enjoyable life. But we don’t agree on the solutions to
Democrats believe that government must step in to solve these problems.
Republicans believe that government cannot solve these problems without
creating larger ones. In short, WE BELIEVE IN THE AMERICAN PEOPLE.
Republicans believe that government’s roles should be limited to those
outlined in the Constitution. We believe that local and state
. . .
these MANDATES designed to "help" educate our children only drain
valuable resources away from educating our children. ) The truth is that the
people the Democrats call "the rich" are really the middle class. The people paying
into the system today would have to know that they will not see the
money they are contributing in the future. Is that really so radical? It sounds like a win for education to
me. The government has demonstrated it
cannot take care of our elderly. In fact,
some even get money back when they didn’t pay anything in the first
place. We don’t believe in the power of a huge federal
government. ) Since
when is it up to the government to decide how people should run their
lives. Is it really compassionate to take money, a substantial
amount of money, from people all their working lives and dole out a
pittance to them at retirement ($300 dollars a MONTH in some cases!)?
There is no "lock box. " The government
takes your money all your life, and then tells you it’s not there when
you reach your golden years. Why should the federal
government spend billions of dollars to MANDATE how local school systems
operate and teach our children? Wouldn’t that money be better spent at
the local level, to buy books, improve schools, and help educate our
children? The Republicans simply wanted to send that money directly to
state and local governments, or even better, don’t send it to Washington
at all.
What about tax cuts? Every time the Republicans talk about tax cuts we
hear the same tired old line.
