Different Types of Professional Writing
             There are a wide variety of documents that can be used in professional writing in order to communicate. These different types of documents can vary in usage depending on the audience. The types of documents written by managers serve a different agenda than those written by employees. Due to the different in needs that each position requires the frequency of different types of writing is dependent on the job title.
             The different types of documents that are written of employees tend to inform employees of different tasks and responsibilities. According to Mabrito, the most common types of documents written to employees are disciplinary reports, instructional documents, formal grievances and memos. (Mabrito, 1997) Each of these documents is written to serve different purposes. A disciplinary report is use to notify employees of any infractions that they might have committed. This report also informs the employee of any disciplinary action that the company is going to take. Instructional documents are use to inform employees of procedures or policies. The procedures can consist of step-by-step instructions or inform employees of safety issues. Formal grievances are reports mostly written by managers that express the manager's stance on a topic. This type of report is usually written to unions on behalf of the manager. The last form of documentation used to inform employees are memos. Memos are mostly used to inform employees of changes in records or announcements. (Mabrito, 1997)
