Black Robe

In "Black Robe" there was a difference in colonial relations between the French and Native Americans concerning Christianity. The Native Americans had mixed feelings about the Christianity being both good and bad. When Chomina died he did not want to be baptized for many reason because he was lead to believe by his people, and himself, that Christianity was not a good religion. Some of the Native Americans on the other hand had good feelings about Christianity. At the beginning and end of the movie by the French man and Father Laforgue lead the Native Americans to believe in Christianity in several ways. Chomina had many reasons not to believe in Christianity. During the movie Chomina had a dream of a raven attacking him and at the end of the dream Father Laforgue, "the Black Robe", walked alone. Chomina tells his wife about this dream and she believes the raven in the dream represents Father Laforgue and Mestigoit believed they should kill Father Laforgue. In

In "Black Robe" there was a difference in colonial relations between the French and Native Americans concerning Christianity. Chomina's son ends up being killed and everyone else escapes, but Chomina is badly hurt. The Native Americans confronted Father Laforgue and he lead them to believe that if the where baptized that they would be saved from the fever. When they where close to the Hurron mission Chomina dies but does not want to be baptized because he would not be with his family in Father Laforgue's paradise because the rest of his family did not believe in Christianity but in their own paradise. They where lead into believing that "Captain Clock" signified some type of mighty god when in reality it just meant that it was time for them to go to the Hurron mission. The clock represented no type of Christianity belief to the French. While Father Laforgue was left behind other Native Americans came along and Chomina and the rest of his tribe came back. Another supporting scene was at the end of the movie when Father Laforgue arrived to the Hurron mission to find that a fever had struck and the Native Americans believed the French had brought the fever and they killed many of the French. Father Laforgue, Daniel, Annuka, Chomina, and Chomina's son are all captured. this scene his is miss lead by his people to believe that Father Laforgue was a demon and that they should leave him behind as the make their way to the Hurron mission and leave him to die. Although Chomina and many of his people did not believe the Christianity was a good religion, many other Native Americans where lead to believe in Christianity. When you die you should be in peace with the people you love in your own paradise, not in some paradise that you don't believe but it sounded civilized at the time. These Native Americans believed that Christianity was going to save their lives because they where not very educated about Christianity. Chomina stuck to his beliefs to be with the ones that he had lost because his people and events from the past influenced him.
