Cultural autobiography

             I come from a very small community where everybody is pretty much the same, there's not much diversity. My only outlet in my community to other cultures is the news and media. Even though I've had some, but not much experience with diversity, I know I can't believe everything I see or hear from the media. So even though I have few resources to diverse cultures, I know some of what is portrayed is true, and some is false. My high school has never even hosted a foreign exchange student, so needles to say I rely on education and personal experiences to enlighten me of other cultures. I have done a lot of traveling, and have had opportunities to observe other cultures though my traveling. I have had the privilege to trek from coast to cast and learn of new and exciting cultures and people of diverse backgrounds. I have learned that even though I may be the same ethnicity and religion as somebody else, we may have different beliefs and practices based on which side of the country we live on.
             In many smaller communities like the one I come from, the majority of the residents are from the same economic status and have a shared job experience. We live a rural life with similar backgrounds, and intimate familiar ties with other members of the community. Several of the women choose not to go to college; they get married soon after high school and become stay at home moms who take care of the children and house work that has to be done. Not all of the men attend college either, they choose to start a farming business right out of high school and settle down early with a family. Some make the choice of taking jobs as factory workers as an alternative to attending college. These varieties of lifestyle are somewhat popular where I come from, there is little social
