Retail stores

The retail industry is a booming industry where consumers spend a lot of money every year. With consumer spending on the rise year after year, there has been a need to examine the customer's interaction with the retail store itself. Every part of a retail store, such as your local Abercrombie & Fitch or The Buckle, is visually looked upon by the customer. The customer, in one way or another, responds to what they see consciously or unconsciously. When examining the store as an interface there are major areas that the consumer sees. These include such things as traffic flow, fixtures, lighting, graphics and signs, and the actual merchandising of product on the walls, shelves and tables.Like any interface, retail store setup takes initial planning. In addition to creating visual excitement, many retail stores try to keep all five senses in mind when they lay out their stores. Most of the graphics or signs are of the brands that are in the store. First ImpressionsThe entrance of a storefront is a critical place to create comfort and give people specific products to buy. Good lighting can guide the customers' eyes to show color, style, and emphasize the good qualities of merchandise. This area is also brightly lit and full of other visually stimulating things such as more signs. FixturesFixtures are the things that hold and display most of the product in the store. The style of fixture is important because it can add to the customer's feel of the stores image. They can be used to educate customers about merchandise for sale, announce special promotions or to direct traffic flow through your store. For example, first showing ties then shoes ultimately lead to the suit. Traffic FlowTraffic flow is one of the most researched interactions between a customer and the store. rstanding of who they are appealing to and the message they want to convey will help to make their displays more focused, effective and easier to construct. Fixtures should also be changed and rotated every so often to add variety and excitement. Customers are drawn to the brighter lit areas of the store and accent lights normally illuminate the best selling products in the store. As humans, we tend to notice things that are grouped together that have similarities or differences.
