Richard rodriguez

Richard Rodriguez's essay consists of his upbringing as a child, his education, and how it affected him and his family life. Through out the essay Rodriguez constantly mentioned Richard Hoggart and the idea of his "scholarship boy" to give examples of his life in a narrative way. To wrap up the essay Rodriguez comes across a reflective idea, that of his education, lack of education, the silence of reading, his unmannered family skills, and his desire to seek for the past to change what he had done wrong. These things have all contributed to his main point and furthered his education and mind set.
Of his many ideas Rodriguez brought one up that captured him. It was the "end of education." This proposal consisted of two thoughts. The first was that the learning is done and the second thought being the final point in education is reached and you can no longer continue. Rodriguez reached a point to where his mindless learning for someone else was done. He also reached the second point in his life later on in his life. Never doing anything but bookwork and knowledge at the end of his "education," his intellectual learning takes a leap for him to find that he longed for this much earlier in life. Reflecting, it came to his understanding that he had outlived his scholarship boy image long before. It just took time to get tired of his daily routine. After joining a group with similar scholars is when he noticed what he wanted. His end of his education led him to his conclusions at the end of education.
Rodriguez did have an enlightening and bright education. His family very much encouraged his learning skills as well as his siblings. But he wanted something more than they did. He wanted to excel past everyone in his family. He realizes that his education was useless because of his constant pursuit for success but abandoning his family at the same time.
