Freedom
Three decades ago, my parents escaped the iron hands of communism to live in America and to experience something they have never had. It was something that was going to give them and there up coming children a better life. It was also something that was automatically given when you are born and that has been restricted by their corrupted government all their lives. This something was and still is called freedom. Around the world this country is known as the land of the free, but do we know what freedom really is? Freedom is a complex and difficult word to define to a person. In order for a person to have a true grasp of the word, it has to be explained in a collection of definitions. It is evident that freedom is part of our human spirit from the very beginning of our life. When infants are put in their cribs, they will often try to climb out of it. They do this because the crib restricts their freedom of just walking freely around their room. Another phase of a person's life that shows a great impulse of freedom is in the teenage years. This is a time where your on self comes into shape. It is when you want to go out and discover the world without having your parents stopping you or telling you what time you have to
The owner of a serf does not have the right to sell. What happens when the majority wants a person's property, or even their children? This is the natural problem with democracy which is there are no guarantees of individual liberty. Censoring situations like this takes away our freedom to talk however we wish. Our Finding Fathers gave us a Constitutional Republic, which means we have a Constitution, or set of rules, for the government to follow. Freedom is within us and as you can see it is evident. Just yesterday I read an article about the government thinking about putting small chips in new born babies so that if someone kidnaps it, they can right away locate it. Freedom is also a choice between what we would like to cook for dinner or just buy a pizza. Recently a talk show host was kicked of the radio because of some caller that used the word "nigger" in a live conversation. We have the ability to collect wealth and give up working completely, something that is almost unknown in less prosperous areas of the world. Once we allow the government to overstep it's bounds, we put our freedom at risk. That is why teenagers are so excited about turning 18 and being released from the grips of there parents. One freedom that I have noticed is being controlled is the Freedom of Speech.
